Glossary of Printing Terms

Basic input/output system. A built-in set of software routines that tests hardware at startup, and determines what a system can do without accessing programs from a disk. It initiates the operating system (OS), and supports the transfer of data among hardware devices such as the keyboard and how it outputs to the screen.
