Continuous Multiple Part Mailers

Several different types of gluing are used on the continuous mailers. The type of glue used depends on the type of mailer, the opening style used on the mailer and the capabilities of the manufacturer. A combination of the different types of gluing can be used on the mailers also. Listed below are some of the types of gluing available.

Permanent Line Gluing - Permanent line gluing is applied as hot glue or cold glue. Both can be used in gluing parallel to the stubs but cross web gluing is generally applied only with cold glue. Hot glue is harder to work with but does set up faster. Permanent line gluing is generally used in stub areas that will be detached or between parts that do not have to be separated. This type of gluing provides the most security to the content of the mailer.

Permanent Spot Gluing - Permanent spot gluing is generally used on a mailer that has some type of peel apart feature to it. The spot gluing allows the parts to be peeled apart easier but will leave some fiber residue in the spot glue areas.

Fugitive Gluing - Fugitive glue is a type of glue that will hold the parts together but allows them to be separated more easily with less fiber residue in the glue area than permanent line gluing. Fugitive glue is used between parts where one of the parts has to be reused, for example where one of the parts is part of the reply envelope. Using fugitive glue des not provide as much security to the mailer content as using permanent glue.

Fugitive Spot Gluing - Spot gluing with fugitive glue provides the least amount of adhesion between mailer parts. It is used when ease of separation is a concern. It would be a good choice when a minimal amount of residue is desired between peeled apart sections. But, it provides the least amount of sealing security to your mailer.

Note: Using the least amount of glue between mailer parts will help to reduce the stiffness of your mailer, improving its runnability for the printer and other processing equipment.
